Buddhist Tour India

This Buddhist tour includes a visit to all the important places in India associated with the life of the Buddha. This tour is infact a Buddhist Pilgrimage along with New Delhi and Varanasi. In New Delhi there is a daylong trip of both Old and New Delhi. The trip will include all the important historical monuments of this great ancient city. Then the tour moves to Varanasi, the most sacred city for the Hindus. About an hour's drive from Varanasi is Sarnath. This is the place where Buddha gave his first sermon. After which you will go to Kushinagar where Buddha spent the last days of his life. The next stop in this Buddhist package is Rajgir, where Buddha spent 12 years of his life. Bodhgaya is the most important place in the Buddhist pilgrimage as this is the place where Buddha attained enlightenment. The last stop over in this tour is the city of Kolkata that is known for its rich and secular cultural heritage.

Ganges Ghats, Varanasi
Day 01 New Delhi
Welcome in India. In the evening visit the sound and light show at the Red Fort.

Day 02 New Delhi
Daylong sightseeing of Old Delhi (Shahajahanabad) and Lutyen's Delhi (New Delhi). Evening is free to shop around Connaught Place.

Day 03 Varanasi
Take a flight to Varanasi. At Varanasi, get the pulse of the most sacred of India by walking through a few of its famous Ghats and narrow backlanes.

Day 04 Varanasi
Early morning boat ride on the river Ganges to witness the holy rituals on the Ghats. A day tour to Sarnath, the place where Buddha delivered his first sermon.

Day 05 Kushinagar
Take a long drive to Kushinagar through the fertile plains of Uttar Pradesh. Kushinagar is the place where Buddha passed away and was cremated. Visit the various places associated with Buddha's last days including the Cremation Stupa and Mahaparinirvana Temple.

Day 06 Patna
In the morning drive to Patna. After checking into the hotel you have the day free to relax.

Day 07 Rajgir
Visit Nalanda, once the world's greatest university. Visit the extensive remnants of the university to get an idea of its glorious past. Drive further to Rajgir, which was once the capital of the Magadhan empire. Buddha spent 12 years of his life in Rajgir and there are many sites associated with the time that he spent here.

Day 08 Bodhgaya
Drive to Bodhgaya. This is the most important Buddhist site in the world. Buddha attained enlightenment here. A guided tour will take you to the Mahabodhi temple and the site of the Bodhi tree. Also visit a few of the several monasteries built by the governments of various Buddhist countries.

Day 09 Kolkata
Board the early morning Rajdhani Express to Kolkata. After you arrive check into your hotel. In the day go on a sightseeing tour of the city that includes visits to Victoria Memorial Museum, Indian Museum, BBD Bagh buildings, Howrah Bridge, Belur Math and St. Paul's Cathedral. Later in the evening, visits its buzzing bazaars or its many famous art centers.

Day 10 Departure
Early in the morning, take a walking tour of the Midan area to watch Kolkata waking up and going about its morning chores- jogging, aerobics, yoga sessions, meditation, horse rides at the race course etc. against the historic backdrop of building like the Victoria Memorial. At the appropriate time, transfer to the international airport to board your flight.
